<p>Yesterday, the students read chapter 5, today we will read chapter 6.  After we have read the chapter I will give the students time at the end of the period to work on their creative writing assignment (a newspaper article describing the battle of cowshed) that is due tomorrow.</p>

<p>7th Grade English:</p>
<p>Objective</p>
<p>The students will:</p>

<li>organize claims and evidence on a graphic organizer.</li>
<li>establish claims and evidence to support persuasive writing.</li>
</ul>
<p>Yesterday, the students were given a handout that listed several choices, the task was for each student to choose one and write three complete sentences defending their choices.  Today, the students will work with a partner, and with a graphic organizer each will present claims and evidence in order to persuade their partner that their candy is better.  They will use the information on their organizer to create a persuasive outline.</p>

<p>Reflection: The students are continuing to read the play and work through the difficult language of Shakespeare.  I believe that after reading the play many students will benefit from watching the plays performance.</p>
<p>English III:</p>
<p>Objective</p>
<p>The students will:</p>
<ul>
<li>review their essays.</li>
<li>review skills for EOI.</li>
</ul>
<p>Today, I will be handing the back the students graded essays.  We will go over them and I will point out issues they need to be aware of.  After we will continue to work through the practice book to review skills before EOI.</p>
<p>PASS-2.2.a, 2.2.c, 3.2.a, 3.2.d Writing/Grammar/Mechanics and Usage-3.1.a, 3.1.d</p>
<p>Reflection: I believe that most of the students are ready to take the EOI and will do well.  There were several issues in the essays with proper thesis statements, so I spent a great deal of time go over thesis statements with them.</p>
<p>8th Grade English:</p>
<p>The students were not in class today.  They were participating in activities to remember the Oklahoma City bombing.</p>

<p>Today, the students will review action verbs and linking verbs.  They will be identifying and labeling these in sentences.  We will then continue with <em>Gone.</em></p>
<p>PASS-Reading and Literature: 1.1, 3.1.a,.3.1.b Writing/Grammar/Usage/Mechanics: 2.8, 3.1</p>
<p>Reflection: While many of the students are enjoying the novel many are not being attentive.  Tomorrow I will be breaking away from the book for awhile and working on skills they can remain on task with.</p>

<p>Thursday, the students read and discussed Act III, and then will work on their Scene Guide and Comprehension Check.  Friday, the seniors filled out their Student Bio forms for the Heavner Ledger.  7th period is a bit ahead of 1st period, so I will be having them to work on Act III Vocabulary (looking at their words in context).</p>

<p>Reflection: Seniors-Are continuing to read through <em>Midsummer Nights Dream (MND).</em> We will beginning Act III tomorrow, and at the end of the week the students will be forming their groups for their MND projects-that will serve as their final assessment. Juniors-are taking their final exam for <em>The Great Gatsby. </em>The exam will consist of character, symbolic, and quotation identification along with short answer.  8th Grade-Will continue to read <em>Animal Farm</em>.  I have been very pleased with how well they are grasping the concepts in the novel and its parallels to socialism and communism. 7th Grade-Today, I started doing review over the eight parts of speech-specifically nouns.  We will be reviewing each part separately.  The novel we are reading has many themes, some of which are dystopian societies, savagery vs. civilization, dehumanization, and the nature of evil. Throughout the novel we will be exploring each of these concepts.</p>

<p>Today, I will be showing the students a video of the history of the Russian Revolution and after we will discuss the video.  This background information will help the students to understand  George Orwell&#8217;s, <em>Animal Farm</em>.</p>

</ul>
<p>Today, half of the students will finish reading chapter 7 of <em>The Great Gatsby</em>, the other half will be pre-registering with Mrs. Powell for the 2010-2011 school year.</p>
<p>PASS: Reading/Literature: 2.3.a, 2.4.a, 3.1.a, 3.2.d, 3.4.a</p>
<p>8th Grade:</p>
<p>Objectives</p>
<p>The students will:</p>
<ul>
<li>read and discuss “The Eagle” by Tennyson.</li>
<li>get into groups and read “A Noiseless Patient Spider”      by Whitman.</li>
<li>identify images and symbols.</li>
</ul>
<p>Today, the students will define five more vocabulary terms for next Friday’s quiz.  I will read “The Eagle” by Tennyson and the class will discuss. Then they will get into groups of five and read “A Noiseless Patient Spider” by Whitman together and list images from the poem, and what they think each image symbolizes. What does the spider symbolize?</p>
